WIND PRINTS
I am continuing to explore relationships between expanding and contracting, two & three dimensional states of being and organic mark making. This relief monotype work is based on the Japanese dyeing technique of Arashi shibori where fabric is wrapped and wrinkled around a pole, creating small pleats. The liminal spaces that form between the folds when the textile is twisted maintain their presence in the flattened image when the fabric is unwrapped and spread on the printing press, creating unique organic patterns captured in ink. Arashi is the Japanese term for “storm”, so I have named this series of prints for different winds that accompany weather events.
